Inside and outside positions
Roulette places wagers on a numbered layout before a wheel result is determined. Inside bets cover individual numbers or small adjoining groups. A straight-up selection covers one number; a split covers two neighbouring numbers on the betting layout. Outside positions cover broader groups such as red, black, odd, even, dozens or columns.
The wheel variant matters. A standard European wheel has one zero and the numbers 1–36. An American wheel adds a double zero. Zero is not red, black, odd or even for the ordinary outside-bet settlement, so a colour selection is not a true fifty-fifty proposition on a zero wheel.
Build a total without going over 21
Blackjack compares each player hand with the dealer. Number cards keep their face value; picture cards count as ten; an ace can count as one or eleven. A hand with an ace counted as eleven is soft because reducing it to one can prevent a bust. An ace and a six, for example, can be read as soft 17.
Hit requests another card. Stand ends the player’s drawing decision. A permitted double adds a second stake and normally gives exactly one further card. A permitted split turns a pair into two separately played hands, requiring another stake. Those extra stakes belong in the total amount committed to the round.
